Our Philosophy of Interpersonal Therapy

Empowering You to Navigate Life’s Challenges with Personalized, Compassionate Care

In our experience, people who’ve only been exposed to counselling through media typically have a negative view and are reluctant to seek help, while people who’ve had counselling before generally understand the benefits and are more willing to seek help.

Our view is that counselling isn’t just for people who are in a rut. Some of the most successful people in the world go to therapy, whether to have a forum to unpack conflict, to better understand themselves, or to further improve what they already do well. If you don’t yet know what your goals are, that’s totally fine. In this case, we start by asking about your identity, how you got to where you are now, and where you’d like to go in future.

We use a “non-pathologizing lens” (also known as a strengths-based approach), to work with your uniqueness and assets rather than focusing on diagnoses, or your perceived limitations. This can be difficult for those who’ve bought into limitations they’ve been conditioned to believe in, but we’ve found that clients almost always benefit from tweaking their self-perception and choosing their own, fresh, growth-minded outlook. This tends to facilitate greater confidence, freedom, and ultimately more emotional expression and attunement.
