Social Justice - Interpersonal Therapy Approach
Committed to Justice, Equality, and Accessible Mental Health for All
BQ is committed to contributing to social and systemic change towards justice and equality.
We do this through:
Increasing awareness:
- Continually critiquing the ethnocentric genesis of counselling approaches used.
- Being alert to the ways societal systems continue to be oppressive, dysfunctional, and harmful.
- Advocating for types of clients who’ve historically been mistreated by psychotherapists, including queer and trans folk, sex workers, those with big bodies, those with addictions, and those who practice polyamory.
- When appropriate and in line with client goals, challenging culturally based assumptions and drawing attention to dynamics of privilege.
Levelling the playing field:
- We continuously look for opportunities to make mental health literacy more accessible.
- BQ provides a limited number of reduced-rate sessions to clients who would otherwise go without.
- A portion of every full-priced session goes towards making this possible.
- We have plans to develop ultra low cost online workshops/tutorials on mental health topics. If you’d like to volunteer your time, or have insight on areas of need, we’d love to hear from you.
