Social Justice - Interpersonal Therapy Approach

Committed to Justice, Equality, and Accessible Mental Health for All

We do this through:

Increasing awareness:

  • Continually critiquing the ethnocentric genesis of counselling approaches used.
  • Being alert to the ways societal systems continue to be oppressive, dysfunctional, and harmful.
  • Advocating for types of clients who’ve historically been mistreated by psychotherapists, including queer and trans folk, sex workers, those with big bodies, those with addictions, and those who practice polyamory.
  • When appropriate and in line with client goals, challenging culturally based assumptions and drawing attention to dynamics of privilege.

Levelling the playing field:

  • We continuously look for opportunities to make mental health literacy more accessible.
  • BQ provides a limited number of reduced-rate sessions to clients who would otherwise go without.
  • A portion of every full-priced session goes towards making this possible.
  • We have plans to develop ultra low cost online workshops/tutorials on mental health topics. If you’d like to volunteer your time, or have insight on areas of need, we’d love to hear from you.
